Teachers' Unions Are Riddled With Plants Who Are Actually Weeds

Posted on 08:37 by Unknown
who have as their goal the destruction of public education in the United States.

The fact NEA would embrace the Gates Foundation nonsense called "Common Core" shows me it and AFT have a death wish for the teaching profession.

NEW BUSINESS ITEM 35

In states where Common Core State Standards (CCSS) will be implemented, the NEA will support and provide guidance to affiliates in advocating for a commonsense plan for the implementation of CCSS guidelines that respect student learning time, limit the reliance on and investment in high-stakes standardized tests, and decrease the reliance on CCSS-related tests in evaluating teacher performance.

RATIONALE/BACKGROUND
The implementation of Common Core Standards should not be an open invitation for increased testing, reduced student learning, and inappropriate use of data for educator evaluations. We need to take the lead on this issue.

COST IMPLICATIONS
Activities to fulfill the requirements of this NBI can be undertaken within the proposed 2013-2014 Modified Strategic Plan and Budget at no additional cost.

Translated: The NEA will provide token opposition for the blatant destruction of public education.

And this outrage:

NEW BUSINESS ITEM 36

The NEA will publicize in our publications and website our condemnation of the Arne Duncan program and our call for the end to competitive grants and Race to the Top at all levels - including at the state, city, and District level. We call for the removal of Arne Duncan as Secretary of Education. We reassert our commitment to fight for the right to public education for each and every child on the premise that education is a right, not a race.

RATIONALE/BACKGROUND
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan’s policy of allowing arrogant billionaires to determine education instead of paying taxes is about cheapening education. It’s an economic policy of austerity, not an education policy. Race to the Top has been an abject failure and is transparently aimed at cutting the cost of education, demoralizing teachers, and destroying union gains.

Five years of Arne Duncan trying to create a parallel, stratified non-union system of charter schools counter-posed to public education has failed to achieve anything but the denial of public education to millions of black, Latina/o and immigrant students. Duncan’s policies of increased segregation, expanding charter schools, increased high-stakes standardized testing, merit pay, punitive teacher evaluations, school closings, and re-constitutions are in direct contradiction to the interests of students and teachers and to historic NEA principles.

Nobody is going to read publications or look at the website to read halfassed "opposition" to federal mandates.
